At VB-MAPP App, we’re proud to work closely with Dr. Mark Sundberg, the creator of the VB-MAPP assessment, to bring you the only author-approved VB-MAPP app. Our team collaborated with Dr. Sundberg to ensure the app meets his exacting standards for accuracy and effectiveness. We also continue to work with him to incorporate any updates or changes to the assessment. This ensures that our app is always current and reliable for professionals in the field. Trust the expertise of Dr. Sundberg and our team to provide you with the best tool for conducting the VB-MAPP assessment.
Data Makes The Difference
Shares results across devices with all team members. An SLP can conduct the EESA on her iPad while the teacher is entering data from the Milestones Assessment on her computer.
Data Makes The Difference
The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) is an assessment tool used with individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and other language delays (Sundberg 2008).

Data Makes The Difference
The Milestones Skills Assessment assesses 170 milestones, balanced across 3 levels of typical development (0-18 months; 18-30 months; and 30-48 months). The milestones are quantifiable and measurable and can be used to document baseline and skill acquisition. The milestones cover 16 key domains (e.g., mand, tact, intraverbal, listener, visual perceptual, play, social, and early academic skills). One of the 16 areas, the echoic, includes the Early Echoic Skills Assessment (EESA) developed by Dr. Barbara Esch, SLP-CCC, BCBA-D.
The Barriers Assessment assesses 24 language and learning barriers that may be preventing a child of any age from making progress (e.g., prompt dependency, non-compliance, behavior problems, impaired minds, demand that weakens motivation, sensory defensiveness). The VB-MAPP Guide contains an analysis of the results from each of the 24 areas and general suggestions that can be used to help establish intervention priorities.
The Transition Assessment assesses 18 different areas that can assist the IEP team in making a transition and educational placement decisions for a child (e.g., overall Milestones and Barriers scores, social skills, group learning, independent work, self-care skills, adaptability to change). The VB-MAPP Guide contains an analysis of the results from each of the 18 areas and general suggestions for types of educational services.
The Early Echoic Skills Assessment (EESA) tests the speaker’s ability to echo. Components tested on the EESA include vowels, consonants, number of sounds or syllables, and prosodic features of intonation, duration, and loudness. The EESA was developed by Dr.Barbara Esch, SLP-CCC, BCBA-D
Task Analysis and Supporting Skills List contains over 900 additional skills that are developing at the same time as certain Milestones are being acquired. This tool is extremely useful when developing programs based on the learner’s assessment.
We're excited to be working on our apps by listening to our community for their needs!
Data Makes The Difference
The Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP) is a widely-used assessment tool developed by Dr. Mark Sundberg. It evaluates and tracks the language, learning, and social skills of children with autism and other developmental disabilities. The VB-MAPP is popular among behavior analysts, speech-language pathologists, special educators, and psychologists due to its comprehensive approach and practical application in developing effective, individualized intervention plans.
Key components of the VB-MAPP include:
Its structured format and focus on practical outcomes make the VB-MAPP a valuable resource in autism education and therapy. For more information and access to official VB-MAPP tools, visit Data Makes the Difference.
The VB-MAPP app offers several advantages over the traditional book format, providing enhanced functionality and convenience for practitioners and educators. Here are some key features of the VB-MAPP app that differentiate it from the book:
Automated Scoring and Reporting:
The app can automatically score assessments and generate detailed reports, saving time and reducing the potential for human error in data entry and analysis.Digital Record Keeping:
All data can be stored electronically, allowing for easy access, retrieval, and backup. This ensures that records are more secure and less prone to loss or damage compared to paper records.Progress Tracking:
The app provides tools to track a learner’s progress over time, offering visual representations such as graphs and charts. This can help in quickly identifying areas of improvement or those needing more attention.Ease of Data Entry:
Inputting data into the app is usually quicker and more intuitive than filling out paper forms. Many apps offer user-friendly interfaces that streamline the assessment process.Portability and Convenience:
Having the VB-MAPP on a mobile device means that practitioners can carry it with them wherever they go, allowing for more flexibility in conducting assessments in various settings.Integration with Other Tools:
Many apps can integrate with other educational or therapy tools, creating a more comprehensive ecosystem for managing a learner’s development and educational needs.Collaboration:
Cost Efficiency:
While the initial cost of the app might be higher, over time it can be more cost-effective as it eliminates the need for purchasing multiple copies of the book and associated materials. These features make the VB-MAPP app a powerful tool for enhancing the assessment and educational planning process, offering significant benefits over the traditional book format.
The VB-MAPP PDF or CSV typically refers to unauthorized digital versions of the Verbal Behavior Milestones Assessment and Placement Program (VB-MAPP). These documents are often distributed without permission and can include PDF files or CSV spreadsheets that contain the assessment materials. It’s important to note that these unauthorized versions violate trademark protections and are not HIPAA compliant, posing significant risks for accuracy and data security.
Official VB-MAPP tools should be used to ensure validity, compliance with intellectual property rights, and adherence to privacy regulations. For accurate and secure use of VB-MAPP, it’s recommended to access materials through authorized channels.

The VB-MAPP was developed by Dr. Mark Sundberg, a leading expert in applied behavior analysis (ABA) and verbal behavior. Dr. Sundberg has over 40 years of experience in the field and has made significant contributions to understanding and treating language and social deficits in children with autism and other developmental disabilities. His work is based on B.F. Skinner’s principles of verbal behavior, and the VB-MAPP is widely used by professionals to assess and guide intervention plans for children with language delays.
