Breaking Language Barriers: The VB-MAPP Goes Global

The VB-MAPP Multi-Lingual Effort: Breaking Down Language Barriers, Together

One of the things that has blown me away over the past few years is seeing just how far the VB-MAPP has traveled. We hear from practitioners in Turkey, Brazil, Japan, France - professionals who are just as passionate about supporting their learners as we are here in the States. And every time we connect with someone from another country who is using the VB-MAPP, the same question comes up: "Can we get this in our language?"

It's a question that deserves a serious answer. Because here's the thing - a child with autism in São Paulo has the same right to a quality assessment as a child in Philadelphia. The VB-MAPP is a powerful tool, but it can only make a difference if the people using it can fully understand it and apply it with confidence, in the language they think, teach, and communicate in every day.

That's why we've been working hard to make the VB-MAPP App a truly multi-lingual platform, and I wanted to share where we are in that journey.

Where We Stand Today

Our online VB-MAPP App currently offers fully available language options in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. We're also proud to have a verified Turkish translation, made possible through the incredible work of our partners in Turkey who went through the content carefully to ensure clinical accuracy. And most recently, we've added Japanese to the app as well.

That's six languages - and we're not stopping there.

For languages we haven't yet fully imported into the app, we've been working with AI translation tools to make the content available to viewers in the meantime. I want to be upfront about this: these AI-assisted translations are a bridge, not a final destination. They allow practitioners around the world to benefit from the VB-MAPP right now, today, while we continue the important work of partnering with professionals in each country to produce fully verified translations. We believe that's the right approach - get useful tools into people's hands quickly, while never cutting corners on the quality that clinicians and their learners deserve.

The EESA-R: Starting the Same Journey

Our EESA-R (Early Echoic Skills Assessment - Revised) is currently available in English, with a Spanish version in the works. Just like the VB-MAPP, we've also made the EESA-R available in additional languages through AI-assisted translation so that more practitioners can access it while we work toward verified versions.

Why Partnerships Matter

Here's what I really want to emphasize: this effort doesn't happen in a vacuum. The reason our Turkish translation is verified is because dedicated professionals in Turkey took the time to work with us, review the content, and make sure it was clinically and linguistically accurate. That kind of collaboration is everything.

Technology can help us translate words, but it takes real people - clinicians, researchers, educators - who understand both the language and the science of verbal behavior to make sure those translations truly serve learners. Every country has its own nuances, its own way of communicating, and the VB-MAPP needs to reflect that if it's going to be the tool we all want it to be.

We've been fortunate to build relationships with partners across multiple countries, and those relationships are at the heart of this multi-lingual effort. It's not just about adding a language to a dropdown menu. It's about making sure that when a BCBA in Tokyo or a therapist in Istanbul opens the VB-MAPP, they can trust what they're reading and use it with the same confidence as someone working in English.

Want to Help?

If you're a practitioner, researcher, or educator in a country where the VB-MAPP isn't yet available in your language - we want to hear from you. Seriously. Whether you'd like to help with translation review, connect us with professionals in your region, or simply tell us about the need you're seeing on the ground, please reach out. This is a community effort, and the more people involved, the better the outcome for learners everywhere.

You can contact us anytime at info@datamtd.com. Let's keep breaking down barriers - together.
